Master Levels for Doom II
Whenever I have some free time, I play the old Doom games. A new port, DOOM + DOOM II, was recently released on Steam, and it includes a community-made level pack called Master Levels for Doom II.
I’ve never seen anything worse. I used to make better maps when I was
in school, and somehow this was officially released. Just look at
this moment at 10:52
in Vesperas.wad. What kind of deranged level designer hides a key
required to finish the level inside a secret area? To reach it, you
have to follow an invisible path along a wall above a bottomless pit—the
mapper literally placed an invisible ledge only a few pixels wide there.
I have no idea how anyone managed to finish this level in 1995. At least today we have hundreds of forum threads and YouTube videos where we can find a hint.
